The Order of the Ceremony

The order of your ceremony may change depending on your religion, culture, or style. I have listed below an order that can be used for a 20 – 25-minute ceremony. The more you add, the longer the service.

  • Venue

  • Ensure the venue is ready and decorated according to your theme.
    Prelude
  • Music plays as guests arrive and are seated.
    Entrance
  • Music plays as the wedding party enters.
    • Groom and groomsmen enter from the side.
    • Bridesmaids enter one by one.
    • Maid of Honour enters.
    • Ring Bearer enters.
    • Flower Girl enters.
    • Bride and father of the bride enter last, with music marking the bride’s entrance.
    • Opening Remarks
  • Brief history of the couple and how they met, shared by the officiant.
  • Readings
  • Selected readings from religious texts, poems, or literature. These can be read by family members or friends.
  • Officiant Addresses the Couple
  • The officiant speaks to the couple, offering words of wisdom and advice.
  • Vows
  • The couple recites their vows. These can be traditional or personalised.
  • Ring Exchange
  • The couple exchanges rings, symbolizing their commitment.
  • Pronouncement of Marriage
    • The officiant declares the couple as married.
  • The Kiss
    • The couple shares their first kiss as a married couple.
  • Unity Symbols
  • Optional unity rituals such as lighting a unity candle, sand ceremony, or handfasting.
  • Closing Remarks
  • The officiant offers final thoughts and congratulations to the couple.
  • Recessional
  • Music starts as the wedding party leaves.
    • The Order of departure
      • Bride and groom exit first.
      • Followed by the flower girl and ring bearer.
      • Maid of Honour and Best Man.
      • Bridesmaids and groomsmen exit paired with one another.
      • Parents of the bride.
      • Parents of the groom.
      • Grandparents of the bride.
      • Grandparents of the groom.

Music plays until all guests have left the venue.
